Showing Up First on Google
Google Ads puts your business at the top of the Google results. When someone searches for what you sell, you can be the first thing they see, the day you start.
Running ads and running ads that make money are two different things. Campaign types, keyword match types, ad copy, landing pages and conversion tracking all determine whether your ads are profitable. Get one of them wrong and you end up paying for clicks that were never going to call.
What Makes Ads Profitable
These are the five things we work on every month in a Northern Kentucky account.
Campaign Structure
Google has several campaign types and they do different jobs. For a local service business, Search is usually where the money is, because the customer is already looking for you.
Keyword Match Types
Broad, phrase and exact match decide which searches your ad can show for. Loose match types are how a budget ends up spent on searches that were never going to become a job.
Ad Copy
Your ad has to match what the person typed and give them a reason to call. We write ads around the service, the town and the one thing you want the customer to do next.
Landing Pages
The click has to land somewhere built to convert. We build the landing page for the campaign, so the page says what the ad promised and asks for the call.
Conversion Tracking
Without tracking you are guessing at which campaigns made you money. We track calls and form fills, then push closed jobs back with offline conversion tracking so Google bids toward revenue.
How We Track Your Revenue
We set up call and form tracking with WhatConverts, or build the same thing inside your CRM. A script swaps the phone number, so each call ties back to the ad and keyword that produced it.
You get the recording and transcript, where the caller was, and often their name. From there you mark what happened next: you met them, you quoted the job, they paid.
Then we send that closed revenue back to Google, so it bids toward buyers instead of form fills. Over time your cost per customer comes down, because the platform learns who your buyers are. That is offline conversion tracking, and it is the difference between counting leads and counting money.
What to Ask an Agency
There are a few things worth settling before you sign with any Google Ads agency. Ask these four here, and anywhere else you are considering.
We believe you will not find a better experience than working straight with the owner.
Will you talk to the person running your campaigns?
Ask whether the person on your sales call is the one in the account, and whether you can meet with them. Here that person is Ethan, the owner, who builds and runs every account personally.
Do you own the Google Ads account?
The account should be in your name, with your card paying Google for the ad spend. That way you see exactly how much went to ads and how much was the management fee.
Is there a long-term contract?
There should not be one. Month to month is the standard, and a long contract is a red flag. You should be able to leave and keep everything that was built.
Does the reporting show revenue?
Leads and cost per lead are the starting point. What you want each month is how many of those leads became paying work, and what that work was worth.
Businesses We Work With
If people search for what you sell, Google Ads can work for you. Most of it comes down to understanding how your customers search.
Home Services and Trades
Cleaning companies, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing and remodeling. Customers search when something breaks, so answering fast matters as much as the ad. See Google Ads for home services and for HVAC companies.
Law Firms and Medical Practices
Law firms, dentists, medical practices and accountants, where one new client can be worth thousands. See Google Ads for law firms and for healthcare practices.
Commercial and Industrial
Manufacturers, distributors and commercial contractors selling to other businesses. Fewer searches, longer decisions and a much larger value per job, so tracking which lead closed matters more here than anywhere.
Auto Repair and Local Retail
Independent shops, restaurants and retailers competing for “near me” searches. Most of these customers call instead of filling out a form, so call tracking carries the reporting. See Google Ads for auto repair.
