Facebook and Instagram Ads in Cincinnati
Good Pup Digital is a Cincinnati Facebook Ads agency. We build and run Facebook and Instagram ads for local service businesses in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. You work with the owner, you own the ad account, and there is no long-term contract.
Meta, which means Facebook and Instagram, has changed a lot over the last year. The platform is smarter now, the way targeting works is completely different, and if you are still running ads the way you did two years ago, you are leaving money on the table.
Unlike Google Ads, which captures people already searching for what you sell, Meta puts your business in front of people based on their behavior and interests before they ever search. We build Meta campaigns around what works today: creative quality over audience targeting, server-side tracking through Conversion API, and broad targeting that lets Meta’s algorithm find the right people.
How Does Meta Decide Which Ads to Show?
Most advertisers think Andromeda is Meta’s ad algorithm. It is not. Andromeda is one piece of a larger AI system, and it handles the first filter, narrowing billions of possible ads to thousands of candidates based on user traits and behavioral signals. Lattice then predicts whether the person will click, watch the full video, or buy. GEM (Generative Ads Model) evaluates the actual creative, including the video, hooks, visuals, and copy, to decide which version of your ad is most relevant to each person. Finally, the auction decides which ad wins the placement, and the creative quality signals from GEM and the conversion predictions from Lattice heavily influence how competitive you are.
This is why creative is now the targeting. A strong creative with broad targeting outperforms a weak creative with hyper-targeted audiences almost every time. We stopped recommending interest-based targeting and lookalike audiences for most campaigns, because Meta’s AI does the targeting work through creative matching. The ad itself is the targeting signal, so we focus on giving Meta high-quality creative assets that Andromeda, Lattice, and GEM can use to find and convert the right users.
Broad targeting, where you let Meta find the right people, works better than selecting interests and demographics by hand. It only works when your tracking is set up right, because Meta’s algorithm learns from conversions. Without them, Meta does not know who to show your ads to and you are guessing.
How Meta Sequences Your Ads
Meta has gotten good at knowing when to show someone your ads. It recognizes where someone is in the process, whether they are just learning about you or ready to buy, and it sorts your ads into three buckets:
- Top of funnel (TOF), your introduction. Someone has never heard of you, and your ad tells them you exist, who you are, and what you do. Example: a Cincinnati cleaning company owner on video saying, “Hey, I’m Sarah, I run a cleaning company here in Cincinnati. We’ve been doing this for 10 years and we’d love to help.” It is humanizing and personal, like talking to your neighbor, with no need to dress up.
- Middle of funnel (MOF), building trust. Someone has already seen your TOF ad, so Meta shows them more about what you offer: video of your team working, customer testimonials, and proof that gives them reasons to care.
- Bottom of funnel (BOF), the offer. Someone has seen your TOF and MOF ads, so Meta shows them your offer, such as “20% off your first cleaning, book now,” with a clear call to action that sends them to a dedicated landing page.
Meta’s AI recognizes all three and knows when to show them. Someone who just learned about you gets TOF, and someone who has been seeing your ads for a week gets BOF with the offer. The sequencing is automatic once the creative is built. Meta will typically spend more on TOF, because that is where you reach new people, and how much flows to TOF depends on your BOF conversion rates. If people convert well at the bottom, Meta keeps feeding the top.
Meta Ads for Lead Generation in Cincinnati
Facebook is where people in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are comfortable asking “does anyone know a good roofer?” or “hey, I’m looking for a painter, any recommendations?” in local groups. They are trusting their neighbors to point them in the right direction. That is your audience: not people actively searching like on Google, but people who are comfortable asking for help and taking recommendations from their community.
Your creative should feel personal and humanizing, like talking to your neighbor rather than running a commercial. The owner on video works incredibly well: “Hey, I’m [name], I run [business] here in [city]. We do [thing]. If you’re interested, feel free to reach out or message me directly.” TOF introduces you, MOF builds trust, and BOF gives them the offer and sends them to a landing page to book or get a quote.
If you are an ecommerce business, you are selling the feeling or emotion your product gives. An ad might be a before-and-after photo with a customer’s testimonial, sent to a dedicated landing page for that product, and the same TOF, MOF, BOF sequencing applies.
Should You Run Meta Ads or Google Ads?
Google has intent, because someone is searching for you, but Google has also become increasingly expensive. The question now is which platform lets you gather more data to feed the algorithms. Meta tends to be the cheaper platform, which means more volume, more data, and more conversions to teach the algorithm who to target, and once Meta’s algorithm learns, it gets really efficient. In a lot of cases that means better results at a lower cost than Google.
It is not always Meta. Sometimes Google is the move, and we will tell you straight which one makes more sense for your business and your budget.
If you already run Google Ads, Meta is not a replacement. Google Ads captures people actively searching. Meta reaches people before they search, building awareness and demand that drives future search volume. Running both creates a full-funnel system where Meta fills the top and Google captures the bottom. Most of our clients run Meta alongside Google Search Ads, and it also pairs with:
- YouTube advertising for video-first strategies.
- Demand Gen campaigns, which run across YouTube, Gmail, and Discover using the same creative-first approach.
- Local Services Ads and a strong Google Business Profile, for full coverage from discovery to conversion.
- Display retargeting, which lets you follow up with site visitors across millions of websites.
- Performance Max, which extends your reach further across Google properties.
How We Manage Meta Ads in Cincinnati
Profitable Meta campaigns come from getting the architecture, audiences, creative, tracking, and budgeting all working together. Here is what we handle on your account:
- Campaign architecture. We build separate campaigns for each stage of your funnel. Top-of-funnel prospecting, mid-funnel engagement, and bottom-of-funnel conversion campaigns each get their own budgets, audiences, and creative, which prevents Meta from dumping your entire budget into the cheapest clicks instead of the most valuable ones.
- Audience strategy. We layer broad targeting with creative-based segmentation. Different ads attract different customer types, and Meta optimizes toward whoever converts.
- Creative production and testing. We develop and rotate ad creative on a structured testing schedule, with multiple concepts in several formats (static, carousel, video). Static images often outperform video for direct-response offers, while video tends to win for brand storytelling and higher-ticket services, so we run both and let performance data decide. We kill underperformers within days, not months.
- Conversion tracking and attribution. We install and maintain the Meta Pixel, Conversions API, and server-side tracking. iOS 14.5 and later reduced the data Meta receives from iPhones, so browser-based tracking alone misses a significant portion of conversions. The Conversions API sends conversion data directly from your server to Meta, and we also build UTM structures and CRM integrations to track leads from first click to closed deal.
- Budget allocation and scaling. We reallocate budget weekly based on performance. When a campaign generates leads below your target cost, we scale it, and when another stalls, we adjust before it burns budget.
Common Meta Ads Mistakes
We come across this all the time. Someone has been running their own Meta Ads and they are not working. Here is usually what is wrong:
- The creative is a Canva template with too much information. It should take someone 5 seconds at most to understand exactly what you do. If your ad looks like a flyer, no one is reading it.
- Low-quality placements. Meta will show your ads on Threads, Messenger, Marketplace, and other places unless you tell it not to, and a lot of those placements are poor. We turn them off and keep Facebook and Instagram feed and stories.
- No Pixel, or a Pixel without the Conversions API. Tracking is the bare minimum. Without it, you have no idea which ads are bringing in customers.
- An empty page. People check your page before they buy from you. If it has 3 total posts and no regular organic content, they have little reason to trust you, and if it looks dead, they are gone.

How Much Do Meta Ads Cost in Cincinnati?
We recommend at least $1,000 a month in ad spend, paid directly to Meta, for lead generation campaigns, and most businesses do better at $1,000 to $1,500 a month. Below that, the algorithm does not get enough data to optimize effectively, while higher budgets allow more creative testing and faster scaling of winning campaigns.
Cost per lead depends on your industry and offer. Service businesses in competitive markets typically see cost per lead between $15 and $80, while ecommerce brands often measure by return on ad spend instead. We benchmark against your specific vertical and adjust campaigns to push costs down over time.
How Long Do Meta Ads Take to Work?
Most campaigns need two to four weeks for Meta’s algorithm to exit the learning phase and stabilize. During that window we are testing audiences and creative, and lead volume typically ramps up by week three. Campaigns with strong creative and proper tracking often see consistent lead flow within 30 days.
